Recognition authority or employer: who answers what?

Understand how recognition authorities and healthcare employers play different roles in German nursing employment.

Recognition authority or employer: who answers what?

Two conversations that overlap but are not interchangeable

A healthcare employer can describe a vacancy, working conditions and support during onboarding. A competent authority decides whether a foreign professional qualification is equivalent and which compensatory measures may be required. A recruiter cannot issue that official decision, while an authority does not choose your ward or roster.

Ask the authority about the correct reference profession, document form, translations, fees, processing communication and the legal meaning of its decision. Ask an employer about duties before full recognition, supervision, adaptation support, language used on the ward, shift supplements and the expected start date.

Keep status language precise

Instead of saying recognition is “almost finished,” state what you can evidence: application submitted, receipt confirmed, additional document requested, assessment notice received, or compensatory measure underway. Precision helps an employer understand what remains uncertain.

Maintain one dated record of submissions and replies. Before sending documents to anyone, confirm the recipient and remove unrelated personal information.
